Healthline is a free telephone health information service. Registered nurses at Healthline assess a caller's health needs and give information and advice. This helps a caller decide on the type of health care they need.

Travel & Health Insurance

For your peace of mind while travelling around New Zealand, it is advisable that you invest in travel insurance, to replace any item lost. Also health insurance, to protect you from that large bill , for that injury that could occur.

New Zealand’s public medical, private medical, and hospital facilities, provide a high standard of treatment and service. This service is not free to visitors except as a result of an accident.

The Accident Compensation Corporation “ACC” will pay for some of the treatment costs to an accident related injury, which occurrs in New Zealand during your vacation. Accident Compensation Corporation does not pay any additional costs resulting from the accident.

You are not required to be vaccinated before travelling to New Zealand.

Outdoor Safety

When exploring New Zealand’s countryside, whether you are driving, hiking, tramping, biking, camping or just taking in the rays of the sun, there are some points you should take into consideration, to make the experience enjoyable.

Be prepared for cold wet weather when in our National Parks or Alpine areas due to the variable weather conditions in the areas throughout the year.
Keep insect repellent with you at all times to protect yourself from sand flies, and other irritable insects..
Do not put yourself at risk when exploring the city nightlife and avoid those unlit areas. SHOUT out loud if you feel threatened and ask police for help even if you are unsure. If you see a crime being committed or a crime has been committed on you, report it immediately to the police.
It is best not to drink water from lakes, ponds or rivers without boiling, chemically treating or filtering to prevent you from getting Giardia.
Take a first-aid kit when you are walking or camping in remote parts of the country, and the appropriate clothing.
When planning to stay out in the sun for more than 10-20 minutes, use sun-block and hats to prevent you from getting sunburnt.
To coin an old phrase; Slip, Slop, Slap (slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat.) to help prevent sunburn.
